We use our skyline yarding system to place run of the river “penstock” pipe on steep or unaccessable slopes where conventional excavators or side booms do not dare to tread. The yarding system is placed in line with the trench or pedestals and then the pipe is either flown uphill piece by piece and lowered into its final resting place to be welded to the preinstalled length or welded to another pipe at the bottom of the slope and then the whole pipeline section is hoisted uphill via pedestals with removable rollers. Either way, the skyline yarding system makes this happen with ease and controllability.
When deflection or “lift” is a problem, we can offer a multi yarder system. The yarders have spars with either 90’ or 70’ booms so this helps immensely when lift is an issue. We can also offer intermediate spars which act much like a chairlift post, to create more lift in areas where a natural protrusion might act to remove deflection.
The multi-yarder system can also aide in the length of the pipeline being constructed. As the yarders need to be able to “bridge” the steep area (one yarder at the bottom and one at the top) the amount of cable a yarder can spool on a drum becomes a factor. Using two yarders, we have the ability to spool both ends of the cable, allowing for the operating distance to increase two fold.
